A Quick Guide to Jonah Crab Claws
If you’re trying Jonah Crab Claws for the first time, consider following these steps to make the most out of your eating experience!
Jonah Crab Claws
Native to the Northwest Atlantic waters from Newfoundland to the Carolinas, Jonah Crab is prized for its sweet and tender white meat. Its flavor is reminiscent of Pacific Dungeness crab, offering a sweet taste with the firm yet delicate texture found in the Florida Stone Crab, all at a fraction of the cost.
Sustainably sourced from our family’s fishing vessel, The F/V Miss Emma, our Jonah Crab Claws come conveniently pre-cooked and flash-frozen, locking in their quality and freshness. They are triple-scored to ensure effortless opening. All you have to do is thaw, crack open, and enjoy the sweet and tender claw meat with melted butter or your preferred dipping sauce
Thawing & Preparation
Our Jonah Crab Claws come pre-cooked and flash-frozen for ease of use. When you’re ready to eat:
Option 1: Defrost overnight in your refrigerator for 16-24 hours.
Option 2: Place the frozen package in cool water for about 1 hour until the contents become flexible.
Use or refrigerate immediately. For the best quality, consume within 5 days after it has thawed.
How to Open Jonah Crab Claws
Opening Jonah Crab may seem intimidating, but with the right tools, extracting the tender sweet meat becomes easy. We strongly advise against using lobster crackers or a mallet for this task, as it tends to make the meat stick to the shell, and small shell pieces can end up in the meat.
- To remove the meat from the claws, you will need your handy seafood fork.
- Insert the butt-end at a 90-degree angle between the scores, ensuring you aren’t digging into the meat.
- Gently apply pressure to wedge between the scores, pry open, and voila!
